Subaru NZ boss Wallis Dumper reckons the arrival of 10 limited-edition WRX models gives buyers a “really happy reason to get the blues.”
That’s because the 10 all-wheel-drive sedans are painted Hyper Blue, a one-off colour that will stand out from the crowd.
It’s restricted to five WRX Premium models and five go-faster WRX STi Premiums, and is a similar hue to that of the Polestar blue of the V8 Volvo racer in the Bathurst 1000.
The WRX is priced at $56,990 and the STi at $65,990. Said Dumper: “This will be a rare opportunity for only 10 Kiwi buyers to purchase a Subaru WRX in a very striking colour.
“There’s always plenty of interest in our sports special-edition versions. Combine that with their proven track record of excellent retained value, and you have a really happy reason to get the blues.”
The blue colour isn’t restricted to the exterior – there’s blue stitching in both variants, on the seats, centre console, door trim, gear shift, and steering wheel.
“WRX is all about sophisticated fun and these 10 Hyper Blue-coloured Subarus just add to its appeal,” said Dumper.
On top of the blue theme is a black theme – both variants get black BBS alloys, black door mirrors, black WRX and STi emblems on front guards, and black ‘Symmetrical AWD’ lettering on the rear tail gate.
The WRX Premium uses a turbocharged 2.0-litre flat-four engine delivering 197kW/350Nm and mated to a Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT). The STi has a six-speed manual gearbox and a 2.5-litre flat-four unit generating 221kW/407Nm.
Both the NZ and Australian Subaru distributors get the WRX and WRX STi Hyper Blue models, but the Aussies also get a Hyper Blue BRZ coupe.
