The 2016 allocation of upwards of 50 Ford Focus RS hatchbacks for New Zealand has sold out, months before the cars are due to land. “Aside from utes, Kiwis also love their hot hatches,” said Ford New Zealand communications man Tom Clancy. The shipment is due around the middle of the year, he said. “Anyone who wants one now will have to wait for the 2017 shipment.” The car costs $69,880. Meantime, in the accompanying video race driver Ben Collins – once the Stig on Top Gear – takes us through the car’s four drive modes – Normal, Sport, Track, Drift. Normal keeps things sedate; Sport tightens up the handling; Track turns everything up; Drift leaves the steering and dampers in their basic settings but tweaks everything else. It’s all done via a button on the center console. The RS runs a 2.3-litre Ecoboost four-cylinder unit delivering 257kW at 6000rpm and 440Nm between 1600-5000rpm. Ford claims a 0-100km/h time of 4.7 seconds.
