No, the Jaguar E-Type boat above isn’t a scale model – but it is a plaything of sorts.
It and the others pictured here are products of Italian designer Pierpaolo Lazzarini. He and his Floating Motors company are building watercraft based on some of the most iconic classic cars.
The car/boats vary in size and come with a choice of battery-electric or petrol power. The nascent brand is currently offering models based on the Fiat 500 in either a catamaran or hydrofoil setup, along with catamarans inspired by theVolkswagen Kombi, Mini Cooper, Porsche 550 Spyder, and E-Type.
The E-Type, dubbed La Perla (The Pearl), is the premium model, with a carbon fibre hull, twin electric outboard motors (Torqeedo Jet Drive) putting out 200kW, and a starting price of $US220,000 ($NZ315,000).
Customers can also choose to personalise their vessels as they see fit, to be used for tenders, water taxis, or shuttles. Upcoming models include designs based on the Mercedes-Benz SL300. There’s even one in the works that’s based on the General Lee (1969 Dodge Charger) from the Dukes of Hazzard TV show.
