Japanese designer Ken Okuyama spent some years with Italian design house Pininfarina. He helped pen such cars as the Ferrari Enzo and Maserati Quattroporte. These days he runs his own design shop, in Tokyo. In this episode of Jay Leno’s Garage, Okuyama shows off the Kode57, his most recent product. It’s based on a Ferrari 599 chassis, weighs around 1450kg, and uses the donor car’s 6.0-litre V12 engine, tuned to deliver around 525kW. Okuyama will build five examples of the Kode57, each priced at around US$2.5m. The Kode57 shown here was one of the stars of last month’s Pebble Beach car show. Okuyama says the Kode57 name was inspired by the year 1957, when many famous sports cars were born. One such car was the Jaguar XKSS.
