While the GTI model of the all-new VW Golf Mk. VII has just debuted a couple of weeks ago, we snapped the first prototype of Wolfsburg’s top-of-the-range: the Golf R. Like its predecessors it will be distinguished by an aggressive front fascia, aerodynamic side skirts and a centre-mounted dual exhaust system which is not mounted on this prototype yet. Other goodies include a sport-tuned suspension, a high-performance braking system and 19- or even 20-inch alloy wheels.
We assume the cabin will get leather sport seats, piano black trim and carbon fibre accents. For the all-wheel-drive Golf R, power will be provided by a turbocharged 2.0?litre engine that develops 280 hp and 350 Nm of torque. It enables the hot hatch to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in “less than six seconds” and hit a top speed of 250 km/h.
